The Ketogenic Diet- a Review by Precision Nutrition
Hello AFS Family-
I hope you all are doing well and having a great start to your week!
I had a client ask me about the ketogenic diet this morning, and I thought I would share the resource that I shared with him with you all, as the keto diet is such a hot topic right now.
The article is pretty long (as PN articles usually are) but worth the read, or at least a skim through. Hopefully this proves helpful!
The extremely short version:
The ketogenic diet has a number of potential medical benefits, but for the average person looking to change their body composition or improve performance, the keto diet is no more effective than other more well-rounded diets (in fact for high intensity athletic performance it is likely worse). The fact that the ketogenic diet is so restrictive in what you can/cannot eat makes it extremely difficult for the average person to sustain this way of eating.

Thanks for sharing! This is a great one to share with clients!
Just logged into this portal for the first time in 8 weeks or so and was so happy to see your Ketogenic post, @Sawyer Paull-Baird! :-) As it happens, I started following the Keto methodology today; utilizing the app Carb Manager. You noted above that "the ketogenic diet is so restrictive in what you can/cannot that it makes it extremely difficult..." and that's the main reason I chose to do it right now during the pandemic <3 I figure: what other time in my life will I Just be sleeping and eating with limited options as to where/when I can do what? :-) Mine as well control something positive.
We shall see how it goes!
@Sawyer Paull-Baird: As an update, kudos to anyone who is strictly Keto full time. I'm following it mainly - on the low end I had 58 carbs one day and on the high end 89 carbs one day - and that carb-age number still feels challenging/low to my body <3 I'm down 6 pounds and curious to see where I'll be at month end.
